Common STDs & Symptoms

Know the signs and symptoms of sexually transmitted diseases and infections.

Chlamydia Test

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection easily treated with antibiotics. Many people with chlamydia experience no or minor symptoms. More severe symptoms include burning during urination, yellow or green discharge, pain in the lower abdomen, inflammation and irregular bleeding.

Gonorrhea Test

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection treated with antibiotic injections and oral medications. Many people with gonorrhea never develop noticeable symptoms. For others, it can cause frequent urination, abnormal discharge, swelling and redness, sore throat, and pain during urination and sex.

Syphilis Test

Syphilis is a bacterial infection spread through contact with infected sores. If caught early, it’s treated with antibiotics. When caught later, it’s treated with penicillin. Syphilis starts as small, painless sores, but left untreated, it can damage the heart, brain and other organs.

HIV 1 & 2 Test

HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus, causes AIDS. It reduces your body’s ability to fight infection and, like many STDs and STIs, often produces no notable symptoms or flu-like symptoms including fever, sore throat and fatigue. There’s no cure for HIV, but ongoing treatment can help those infected live long, healthy lives.

Hepatitis A & B Test

Hepatitis A and B are transmitted via viral infection. Both can cause liver inflammation and serious or life-threatening complications. While both are treatable, only Hepatitis A is curable. Vaccines are widely available and recommended in infancy. Check your immunization records to know if you’ve been vaccinated.

Herpes Type 1 & 2 Test

Herpes Type 1, or oral herpes, causes sores around the mouth and lips. Herpes Type 2, or genital herpes, causes sores around the genitals or rectum. The virus goes through periods of dormancy and outbreak and can be spread even when no sores are present. There’s no cure, but there are treatments to relieve symptoms.
